Day Six
Touring
Munich
First we took the subway downtown to the Science Museum. It was very large like the Smithsonian. It was snowing hard down by the river. There were many boats, planes, rocketships and cars. A fantastic astronomy section too. The hands-on physics, light, optics and mechanical engineering sections were great. I could have played in there all day. The collection of timepieces went back many years. The glassblower was great and I got some very nice little ornaments. Then we walked in the blizzard to the Hoftbrau Haus. This is the Oom-pah band Beer Hall. The music was loud and Dad preferred a quieter restaurant across the square. We ate a nice meal of Gluhwien and salads and Bavarian ravioli with mushroom cream sauce. Then we walked to the Marienplatz (the main square by the Town Hall or Rathaus) and I went to St. Peter's Church and saw the gilded and jeweled skeleton on St. Muldita. Went into a tiny Christmas store and got some carved angels and a birthday present for Dad (boy are men with everything hard to shop for!).
We found the "Macy's" and Dad and Joanne found
the "Bloomingdale's" gourmetshop (Dalmyers)! What fun. We had
sweets on the street in a little outside bakery...this cake pudding thing
with vanilla sauce called a Domphnudel. For dinner we ate at home pasta
and tomato sauce (homemade with tomatoes and garlic from the market) and
nice German wine.
