Day 11: Smile You're in Luxor!

We drove in to our nice hotel and then I took a walk down to the The Winter Palace and stopped by the bookstore. We took a horse and buggy and jangled the whole way.  Loved the bookstore and got some great David Roberts prints.  The old Winter Palace is very fancy and Victorian.  Walked past Luxor Temple and the Nile.  It has imprinted so much on my mind I can just close my eyes and still see the view.  Luxor Temple is much bigger than it looked from the outside once you are in it and yet it is tiny compared to Karnak. We visited the Temple first at night all lit up and very impressive!  You can't believe it was once buried up to it's neck in sand and houses were built on top of it.  The obelisk is splendid and you regret the other is missing (in Paris), and gorgeous faces of Ramses II.  Naga showed us the story of the processin they would have between Luxor and Karnak Temples that is on the walls.  They would parade the golden statues of the gods once a year.  We'll come back on our free day.  Tomorrow we go to the Valley of the Kings, the highlight of our trip.  The cobra below is from one of the tombs.

The Golden Hawk below was in the Nubian Museum.
