Day Nine:
Ulm and
Augsburg
After a breakfast of only tea, I walked down by the Danube river and took photos. A train passed over the bridge and there were beautiful swans. It was snowing a little and the snow filled the cracks in the patterned cobblestone streets. Then I returned to the market to meet the gang and ate a veal sausage for lunch, and did a little more shopping and looking and taking photos.
We then packed up and drove to Augsburg - on the
way back to Munich - for another Christmas market! This was very nice,
and I saw the Hexa witch come out of her little house and scare the children
and give them poisoned chocolates. We
ate the BEST dompfnudel there and very good potato pancakes with applesauce.
The music boxes and angels were delightful. The Christmas witch came
out of her little house and shook her broom at the children and gave them
chocolates. The cathedral here is 1,000 years old and has the oldest stained
glass windows in the world. It was beautiful inside with many small
chapels and one very elaborate pink and white gilded one. There was an
old underground crypt that had arched ceilings and was very atmospheric.
The cathedral was so big it had 3 separate organs!
We returned to Munich to go to a Hungarian restaurant
for dinner. This was interesting. I had goulasch soup, which
was yummy and spaetzel with sheep cheese, cream and dill sauce. Wow!
